Carroll Fisher died June 22 after complications from leukemia. He was 73.

Fisher was an active and visible volunteer in multiple community organizations such as Reach Out Federal Way, FUSION, Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking, 30th District Democrats and more. Fisher was devoted to helping the homeless, and was engaged in local education issues, domestic violence awareness and political races.

He was born March 12, 1940, in Johnson City, Tenn. Fisher and his wife, Eileen, were married nearly 53 years, and lived in Federal Way for about 40 years. He served eight years in the U.S. Air Force and spent 32 years with the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk at the airport. In that time, he was active in his union.

Eileen said her husband was a caring man who always wanted to give back. He also had a dream of winning the Publisher’s Clearinghouse sweepstakes.

“He wanted people to be given a fair shake,” she said. “He was just a guy that gave his heart to everybody.”

Fisher is also survived by daughter Diana Forderer (husband Darrin). A celebration of Fisher’s life will be July 6 at Kent Methodist Church, 11010 SE 248th St., Kent. Viewing runs noon to 1 p.m. with the funeral starting at 1 p.m. A reception will be held at the church for coffee, tea, punch and cake.
