Integrity Life Church and the Federal Way branch of the King County Boys and Girls Club will be giving backpacks to the first 250 K-12 students who attend their back to school bash on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Backpacks will be filled with basic school essentials donated by the church congregation, said Lester Kinlow, a member of the church’s executive team.

The church has stepped in to provide supplies to some kids so families don’t have to be burdened by the expense and so teachers don’t have to pay for supplies out of their own pockets, Kinlow said. The church has given away supplies for several years in an effort to support families and the community.

The free event will also provide a hot dog lunch with chips and soda, as well as an inflatable bounce house. South King Fire and Rescue will be present with a truck for kids to explore and firefighters will also give a short demonstration of emergency and safety information. There will also be other giveaways throughout the event, Kinlow said.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 30815 Eighth Ave. S. in Federal Way.
