The Federal Way Arts Commission is sponsoring an art contest in partnership with the Federal Way Municipal Court.

The contest is open to all students enrolled in grades 1-12 and living within the Federal Way School District. Homeschooled and private school students may also apply.

Winning entries of original artwork will be displayed at the court from June 2011 to June 2012. The hope is to give the court a friendlier look for family members who are visiting. The Arts Commission will offer cash awards ($100 for first place, $50 for second place) for students in elementary, middle and high schools. Awards will be presented by Judge Dave Larson and Judge Rebecca Robertson.

All entries must be based on the theme “Liberty and justice for all.” Two entries accepted per student. Artwork must be original and no larger than 12 by 17.5 inches, must be suitable for framing and must be signed in the lower right corner. Deadline to enter is April 15. Winners will be notified by April 29.

Entry forms are required and can be obtained at each Federal Way school or by contacting Leah.Fraine@cityoffederalway.com. Mail entries to Federal Way Arts Commission, Student Art Contest, P.O. Box 9718, Federal Way, WA 98063.
