Applications now available for open Federal Way City Council seat

The Federal Way City Council is now accepting applications to fill a vacant seat on the council that was created when Mayor Jim Ferrell resigned the position to become mayor on Jan. 1.

There is an opening on the Federal Way City Council and interested applicants have until Feb 3 to submit their applications. The opening was created when Mayor Jim Ferrell resigned his council position to become mayor on Jan. 1.

The Council will conduct interviews of selected applicants and make the appointment in a special meeting on March 1 at City Hall.

Applications are available at a number of locations:

• Applications can be found online at www.cityoffederalway.com/CouncilApp

• City Hall – 33325 Eighth Ave. S., Federal Way

• King County libraries – 34200 First Way S. or 848 S. 320th St.

• Federal Way Public Schools administration building  – 33330 Eighth Ave. S.

By law, the Council must act to fill the position by March 31. The new Council member will serve until the certification of the November 2015 election.

The City Council consists of seven members who are directly elected by the citizens for four-year terms. The Council establishes law and policy by passing ordinances and resolutions. Council members receive a monthly salary of $1,150 and a $475 monthly contribution to a medical expenses plan.
