Anytime Fitness now open in Federal Way | Business

Longtime member Lori Yates credits success to Mindy and Corey Lewis

Mindy and Corey Lewis, owners of the Anytime Fitness in Lakewood for six years, opened a second location on Jan. 18 in Federal Way at 1614 SW Dash Point Rd.

“We’re a boutique gym, open 24 hours,” Mindy Lewis said. “We get the nicest equipment that Precor makes.”

Anytime Fitness, considered to be one of the world’s fastest-growing health club franchises, now has more than 3,000 gyms worldwide. Members are able to access their local gym any time of day with their own personal key fob.

“You’re not bumping into hundreds of people,” Lewis said. “It’s a family-friendly facility. We have panic buttons on the wall that go directly to the Federal Way police, with a full security system in place.”

With plenty of treadmills, cardio machines and free weights and the ability to access the facility at all hours of the day, Lewis said members never complain about waiting for equipment.

Cardio machines each come with a touchscreen that includes hundreds of television channels to choose from. A 500-square-foot studio space is available for members to take classes in a group setting or on their own. Lewis said the Federal Way facility will soon have a kiosk where members can select from a variety of individualized classes. When a member chooses a class, a large television screen will lower down and project the workout session.

“It allows you to take classes 24 hours a day,” Lewis said.

The Federal Way Anytime Fitness evokes a comfortable atmosphere. As members arrive, to the right inside the entrance is a living space with couches and chairs. The color palette on the walls varies from yellow to green to orange. The bathrooms include vanity tops.

Lewis said the decor was selected to help members feel welcome and relaxed.

Lori Yates, a member of the Lakewood Anytime Fitness since April 2009, said she plans to start frequenting the Federal Way location. She said she loves the atmosphere that Mindy and Corey Lewis have created and the support and encouragement they give to their members.

“The type of staff Mindy and Corey hire creates a ‘welcome home’ gym atmosphere,” Yates said. “It’s not stressful. You’re not fighting for equipment. It’s like a little piece of heaven.”

Yates joined Anytime Fitness because she wanted to get in shape and lose weight. At the time she joined she was 309 pounds.

“I couldn’t walk up and down the stairs,” she said. “I couldn’t walk from one end of the hallway to the other without leg cramps. I was completely out of breath. I was breaking out in sweats. I couldn’t do a push-up or a sit-up. My sense of confidence and self-worth was gone.”

Yates said Lewis encouraged her and suggested she start training with their trainer Alex Seal.

“In the first 10 months the transformation was unbelievable,” Yates said. “I went from not being able to do anything to running CrossFit, doing 5Ks and Olympic weight lifting,” Yates said. “As of last December, I took home three national records in power lifting through the United States Powerlifting Association.”

Several years ago Yates, along with her trainer, was named Anytime Fitness’s National Member Success Story. Yates was awarded a lifetime membership to Anytime Fitness and was featured in Woman’s Day magazine.

Yates, who today is an independent fitness trainer, said she owes her success to Mindy and Corey Lewis and Anytime Fitness.

“When I go into Anytime Fitness, I know I’m home in my gym,” she said.

As a grand opening special, Anytime Fitness in Federal Way is offering memberships starting at $29.95 per month with no enrollment fee. Key fobs are also free.
