When Woodmont Elementary students return to school this fall, they will be greeted with a new mural on their campus. Eleven students who participated in an AmeriCorps summer program created the mural over the summer. It says “Thunderbird Pride” and features bright colors and shapes. AmeriCorps member Kristen Egan designed the mural and supervised students while they completed it. The students learned about the Pythagorean theorem, using scales, proportion and painting technique. The mural will be painted with an anti-graffiti coat. Supplies were provided by the Woodmont ASB and ACE Hardware in Des Moines.
