A 39-year-old Federal Way man is wanted on a $10,000 arrested warrant for allegedly threatening to kill a South Whidbey woman over the phone, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Cody W. Openshaw in Island County Superior Court Oct. 26 with felony telephone harassment, a domestic violence crime.

Island County Superior Court Judge Carolyn Cliff authorized a $10,000 warrant for his arrested after he didn’t appear for a court hearing Monday.

Openshaw’s ex-wife reported to police that she was talking to him on on a cell phone on speaker while she was driving to the ferry for a custody exchange Oct. 8; he allegedly threatened to strangle her to death and called her offensive terms while the children were listening in the car, the police report states.

The woman reported that Openshaw had a drinking problem and sounded inebriated, the report states. She said he had previously assaulted her and violated a no-contact order, the report indicates.

If convicted of the charge, Openshaw could face a sentence of three to eight months in jail under the standard sentencing range.
