Five teenage suspects led Seattle Police on a car chase ending at The Commons mall on Thursday afternoon, according to officials. Dozens of law enforcement officers responded to the area of 1928 S. Commons in Federal Way after 1 p.m. on Jan. 5.
The teens reportedly robbed a man in Ballard around noon, according to the Seattle Police blotter. The robbery victim, who sustained minor injuries, told police the suspects stole his cell phone, backpack, and other items.
The suspects fled from the scene in two stolen vehicles, according to the blotter. After police attempted to stop the suspects, King County’s Guardian One helicopter tracked one of the vehicles, a red Kia, driving south on I-5 toward Federal Way.
The driver of the Kia parked at The Commons mall and all of the suspects fled into the mall, according to the blotter. Police chased the suspects on foot and all five suspects were taken into custody without incident. They were booked into the King County Child and Family Justice Center for robbery.
General Investigations Unit detectives are investigating whether this group of teen suspects could also be connected to other incidents in Seattle, including cases involving stolen vehicles, car prowls and armed robbery.
