Five Federal Way Public Schools students received Act Six scholarships this year – making up over 20 percent of the 22 emerging urban and community leaders selected across the Puget Sound Region.
Ruhama Berta of Thomas Jefferson and Andrews Boateng of Decatur received scholarships to attend Whitworth College, Jesus McCloskey of Thomas Jefferson received a scholarship to Gonzaga University, and Elissa Cadena of Thomas Jefferson and Omar Miranda Garcia of Todd Beamer received scholarships to Pacific Lutheran University.
Act Six is a leadership and scholarship program that connects local faith-based community affiliates with faith- and social justice-based colleges to equip emerging urban and community leaders to engage the college campus and their communities at home.
Act Six selected its 56 scholarship recipients “after a rigorous three-month selection process that began with more than 700 applicants,” the group said in a statement, adding that the scholarships collectively are worth more than $9 million over four years.
