Two new art pieces are on display in the Educational Services Center at Federal Way Public Schools, courtesy of the Museum of Glass. For almost 10 years, the Museum of Glass has invited students to participate in Kids Design Glass.
Once a month, an original drawing submitted by a young artist is selected by the Museum of Glass Hot Shop Team and then created in hot glass.
Last spring, local high school art classes were challenged to submit proposals for three-dimensional dioramas which interpreted or extended the artistic statement of a Kids Design Glass piece of work.
The dioramas on display at the ESC were selected from 15 competitive proposals submitted by students at Federal Way High School to house the glass sculptures. The works were a result of a collaboration between young artists, the Museum of Glass, and KCTS 9.
“Space Wanderer” is housed in a display created of Nintendo 64 gaming cartridges, fused glass, modeling clay and LED lights. The display is the work of Tran Chau, Edward Garcia, Peter Gitau, Paoli Honrade, Robert Hughes, Aaron Matthews, and Jeremy Mored from Federal Way High School.
“Akulu the Landshark” is another installation at the services center; the display environment includes ping pong balls, insulation foam, fishing line, a Barbie doll and a clam shell. It is the work of Federal Way High School Students Kenai Brazier, Courtney Cox, Kara Hatcher, Justin Kon, Jalal Lawerence, and Elizabeth Abramchuk.
The Museum of Glass continues to accept proposals for glass art creations. Forms are available online.
