Free hearing aids for kids

Quota International of Kent is supplying free hearing aids for low-income youth whose health insurance doesn’t cover the devices through a program called Sound Beginnings. For more information, call (206) 824-2404. The deadline for applications is Sept. 30.

Star Lake Elementary anniversary

Teacher honored

Retired United States Air Force Master Sgt. Will Smith, a current Air Force Junior ROTC instructor at Federal Way High School, was recently recognized by the Department of the Air Force. Smith served as a seminar advisor for future AFJROTC instructors at an Instructor Course held at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Student honored

Morgann Green a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, is among 11 Washington state semifinalists for a 2009 National Achievement Scholarship. The scholarship program recognizes academically promising black students throughout the country.
