Free live jazz
Marine View Church is launching “Jazz LIVE at Marine View,” a series of concerts featuring the finest jazz musicians in the Puget Sound region. The concerts will take place at 5 p.m. the last Sunday of each month in the church, 8469 Eastside Dr. NE, just west of Dash Point State Park on SR 509. Admission is free to all ages. Children’s Theatre
Missoula Children’s Theatre is coming to town, this year with “Hansel and Gretel.”

FW Symphony
The Federal Way Symphony will hold its Chamber Concert, an intimate afternoon of delightful classics, at 2 p.m. April 5 at St. Luke’s Church, 515 S. 312th St. The ensemble is directed by violinist Yuriy Mikhlin, Federal Way Symphony’s concertmaster. Sweets for Success
The fifth annual “Sweets For Success” dessert benefit and auction at Todd Beamer High School will run 6 to 9 p.m. April 17. Hosted by the Federal Way AmeriCorps team, Sweets for Success raises money to enable Federal Way secondary students to participate in extracurricular activities such as music, speech and debate, sports and art.
Last year’s event raised more than $9,000. In the past four years, $39,000 has been raised — $31,000 of which has been awarded to students. To date, the AmeriCorps team has provided more than 600 awards to students in the district. This funding has come entirely from the Federal Way community.
This year’s event will feature entertainment and refreshments as well as a silent auction.

Harmony Kings
The Federal Way Harmony Kings are set to perform several times in the next few months. First for the singers is 5:40 p.m. April 17 where the group will sing the National Anthem at opening night at Emerald Downs.
The group will follow that at 1 p.m. April 19 at the Puyallup Spring Fair competition.
The group will compete on May 16 for the Division II Competition at Bremerton.
Their annual shows begin on June 5 at the Auburn Performing Arts Center.
Then lastly they will perform at Scones Wagon at Puyallup.

Salsa time
Carmona and Correo Aereo, a night of Spanish music and flamenco dance, will kick off with husband and wife Rubina and Marcos Carmona, the “first family” of Northwest flamenco.
Marcos plays stirring flamenco guitar, and Rubina sings from the rich repertoire of songs from this fiery and profound tradition. They will be joined by a solo dancer from their company, Carmona Flamenco.

Pacific Ballroom Dance

TJ Musical Theatre to present ‘Starmites’
Students at Thomas Jefferson High School will present “Starmites” this May. Showcases will be offered during the day for viewing by students from area schools. Talented kids
Two Federal Way singing/dancing/acting groups, Show Biz Kids and Teen Idols, are now accepting new members. Show Biz Kids is a non-auditioned group of performers ages 5 to 16 (no experience required). Teen Idols is an auditioned group of talented teens ages 13 to 19 (looking for talent, not necessarily experience). Performers are divided by age. Power of poetry
Thistle Theatre comes to town with “The Goblin and The Poet” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. June 13. The Hans Christian Andersen story follows a goblin who lives who lives comfortably with a grocer to whom he has pledged his services. He sees a poor poet give up food in exchange for an old book. The incredulous goblin peeks into the poet’s room and sees the beauty and excitement of poetry dance before his eyes.
