The art of high fashion is coming to Federal Way.
Federal Way High School student Michael Delk Jr., along with other high school students, will hold their High Fashion Runway Event on April 24-25 at The Commons mall.
The event is billed to feature the latest trends in spring fashion, and will feature popular brand names, designer names and several custom-designed outfits.
The event is a fundraiser for students involved in performing arts.
The idea came about after Delk was selected to participate in an international performing arts conference. Rather than going door to door and asking for donations to raise money for his trip, Michael decided to organize a fashion show. Fashion is one of his passions, his mom said.
“He’s always about how he looks,” mom Nita joked.
Delk also took a fashion class last year. Last October, the organizing began.
“He’s just now in the throes of finding out how much work this is,” Nita said.
The event is sponsored by the nonprofit Center for the Future of Public Education. However, organizers are still looking for more sponsors as well as advertisers.
Ads in the program range in cost anywhere from $25 to $895.
Last weekend began the model auditions. Delk found about a dozen models last week; he will choose more this weekend at open auditions from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 33506 10th Place S.
Delk and other students involved have already arranged for makeup artists, hairstylists and photographers.
Delk’s own runway coach — yes, Michael is a model too — is also offering three-hour catwalk lessons for those in the show.
Several designers and retailers have already signed up. However, there is still the need for more clothes for the runway show.
