Sisters split $2.9 million lottery prize; winning ticket purchased at Auburn gas station

Last week, Beverly Bowman bought a $2 lottery ticket.

The Federal Way resident stopped by a Fred Meyer location on Sunday to scan the ticket. That’s when Bowman learned she won $2.9 million.

Bowman will split the prize with her sister Tammy Taylor. Opting to take the winnings in a lump sum, they received a check for $1,087,500 on April 13 at the Washington Lottery headquarters in Federal Way.

“I always knew I was going to win,” said Bowman, who bought the ticket April 8 at the AM/PM store at 320th Street and Military Road in Auburn. “My dad always said I was the lucky one.”

The sisters, who have always been close, plan to take their families on a cruise. They will also keep their day jobs: Bowman works as an operations manager at a real estate firm, and Taylor is an industrial engineer.

“We’re still kind of in shock,” Taylor said.
