Dozens of spectators stopped by the Sand Sculpting Tour of Champions, which kicked off Aug. 18 in Federal Way. Check out a video from opening day, featuring master sculptors in action and remarks by Federal Way Mayor Skip Priest.
The event runs through Sept. 5 at the former Target/Toys ‘R’ Us site, 31510 20th Ave. S., Federal Way. World master sculptors will produce works of art out of sand to compete in singles and doubles competition.
Beginning at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 19 is an event called Quicksand, a head-to-head competition between the sculptors to make small, five-gallon carvings. The winner will be decided by a vote of the audience.
Theme days include Youth Day on Aug. 22, Armed Forces Day on Aug. 26, Senior Day on Aug. 30 and Elks Day on Aug. 31.
Admission is $8.50 adults, $6.50 for children and seniors, free for ages 4 and under. Event runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
