Renaissance man comes to town in time for Valentine’s Day

Peppino D’Agostino is coming to town for a night of Valentine’s Day romance.

The Italian-born self-described Renaissance man will perform 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at Knutzen Family Theatre.

D’Agostino was named Best Acoustic Guitarist by Guitar Player magazine in its 2007 Reader’s Choice Awards.

He is known for his mix of folk, Irish, Italian, Brazilian, flamenco and jazz tunes.

“All the different parts of me are out there — the singer, the composer, the guitarist, all together,” said D’Agostino on his Web site. “I’m all of those. I really believe in that because I like to entertain an audience. I usually talk and try to make them laugh. Sometimes I tell jokes. The audience wants an experience where they feel connected to the performer and moved by the music. Otherwise people would just buy the CD and listen to it at home. I’m a medium — a filter between the music and the audience.”

D’Agostino’s newest album will be released in April.

The album, “Made in Italy,” is a tribute to his birth country.

He is also a member of Brian Gore’s critically acclaimed International Guitar Night.

Tickets for the show are $16 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/46056.
