Would you be willing to sacrifice a night of sleep to raise money for cancer research?
On June 25, 48 teams will come together to raise money for Relay For Life at Saghalie Middle School in Federal Way, walking the track non-stop from 6 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26.
About 467 individuals make up the 48 teams, and together they’ve raised more than $30,000. However, they are $50,000 short of their goal for the event.
Often, Relay For Life has returning supporters for which the topic of cancer hits home. Chrislyn Johnson, alongside her husband, Jason, joined last year in both the Relay For Life Auburn and Federal Way fundraising events. She comes back in support of her mom, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Relay For Life Federal Way is a yearly fundraiser to benefit cancer research through the American Cancer Society. All of the proceeds go directly toward different areas of cancer research, such as helping people stay well with help from the American Cancer Society Quitline.
The society also provides an online support community, and assists cancer patients with transportation to and from treatment. The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program provides one-on-one guidance for patients through their difficult journey.
