Pride in the name of Love

Jennifer, Bill, Brandon and Jordan know love — it’s their last name.

They are one of several Federal Way area families with the last name Love or some variant of Love. There are also a Loveheart, Lovelace and Loveless living in Federal Way.

Brandon Love, now a senior at Western Washington University, recalls being teased about his name as a child. Nowadays, he gets compliments about it, mostly from young women.

Bill Love, who owns an Allstate Insurance office in Federal Way, said the name is a good conversation starter. While Bill Love’s family comes from many different origins, he believes the Love name is Irish.

According to Whitepages.com, Love is the 352nd most popular last name in the United States. Most of the Loves live in Texas and California. In Washington, there are 1,062 unique Love last names listed in the phone book.

For Valentine’s Day, the Love family usually celebrates by spoiling Jennifer with gifts like chocolates and flowers.

“I make sure they buy me something until they get girlfriends,” Jennifer said of her two sons.

“She deserves it,” Brandon said.

According to the U.S. Census, 180 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second most popular holiday for card-giving. The top ways Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day are with greeting cards, date nights, candy and flowers.
