“I Just Want to Pee Alone” is stirring a buzz on the book charts with its humorous essays on motherhood.

The compilation briefly occupied the top spot on Amazon’s Parenting and Family Humor category. The book has also reached the top 10 on iTunes in the humor category.

One of the essays, “Bubble Baths and Shaved Legs,” was written by local blogger Rebecca Gallagher, a 1990 graduate of Federal Way High School.

Gallagher’s essay was inspired by a classic dilemma faced by parents — namely, finding a little privacy to use the phone or the bathroom.

“It’s difficult as a mom to get ‘me time’ or take a bubble bath without the kids knocking on the door,” said Gallagher, who lives in Renton with her husband of 16 years, James, and their children Emma, 12, and Owen, 9.

Gallagher writes about marriage and motherhood on her blog frugalistablog.com. Her latest entry chronicles her husband’s vasectomy, from his decision to get the “snip-snip” to confirming a week after the procedure that he was indeed “firing blanks.”

In fact, Gallagher’s edgy blog led to her contribution to “I Just Want to Pee Alone.” Popular mommy blogger Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat (her pen name) recruited a few dozen bloggers, paid them a few bucks and compiled their essays into the self-published anthology.

From off-the-wall stories of parental chaos to messy diapers and cluttered toys, Jen says the book offers a tale for every reader.

“I’m kind of a tough judge,” Jen said from Kansas City, where she lives. “If I didn’t laugh, then it didn’t make the cut.”

Titles of other essays in the anthology include “Kids and Cleaning: Just Kill Me Now,” “The Poop Diaries,” “So She Thought She Could Cut Off My Stroller,” “How Moving Made Me Want to Become a Carnie,” and “The Tale of Two Vaginas.”
