It’s time for an American classic — the barbershop quartet.
The men of the Harmony Kings Barbershop Chorus will perform in the first Community Appreciation Concert at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church, 1829 S. 308th St., Federal Way.
The show will feature songs performed by various quartets as well as the whole chorus.
Some of the acts include the 2000 Senior Evergreen Champions, the Country Squires, said past president Jerry McCarthy, who is also the lead for the Country Squires. Other groups to perform include the gospel quartet 4 Heaven’s Sake and the high school quartet from Auburn Mountain View High School, Beginner’s Luck.
“Boy are they good,” McCarthy said.
The music will include some holiday pieces, but the vast majority will be a panorama of music from all decades.
The event is free to the public and features free coffee and cookies. Pies donated by Marie Callender’s will be sold to raise money for different charities that the Harmony Kings Barbershop Chorus sponsor, including a speech and hearing charity, which has inspired the motto, “We sing that they shall speak,” McCarthy said.
