Read Across America Day is celebrated every year on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which falls on March 2. In 2012, the children’s book author would have marked his 108th birthday.

Among the celebrations in Federal Way, athletes from Todd Beamer High School entertained students at Sherwood Forest Elementary School on Friday, then read books to students to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday and reading in general.

Theodor Seuss Geisel produced dozens of classic children’s books, most notably “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Seuss’ books are known for their rhymes and whimsical drawings. Seuss’ books continue to sell hundreds of thousands of copies every year, long after his death in 1991.
