Coffee with the Mirror: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 1-2:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation and coffee. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Public tax briefing: Visit the City Hall council chambers Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. for a rundown on tax increment financing from the city of Federal Way. The city will break down this method of funding, which is being considered for the downtown revitalization project. Visit engagefw.com/tif for more information.

Free movie at Town Square Park: Catch a showing of “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” on August 19 at 8:45 p.m. The film will start around the time the sky is totally dark. Remember to bring a chair and blanket.

Run With The Cops: This annual 5K race is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Washington. It starts at the Federal Way Community Center on August 26 at 9 a.m. Around 200 people support the event annually, according to the city. Register at: https://tinyurl.com/runwithcopsFW. Pre-registration is $30, or $40 if signing up day-of the run.

Lions Car Show: Visit The Commons Mall on Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Federal Way Lions Club’s 18th annual scholarship car show. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for high school seniors in the Federal Way School District.

Free back-to-school Haircuts: Bella Red Salon will provide free haircuts for students ages 5 to 18 on Aug. 28 from noon to 7 p.m. at Town Square Park. The first 500 kids will be served; there’s no need to tip.

“Dive-in” movies at Wild Waves: Every Thursday, catch a showing at the Wild Waves theme park wave pool from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17: “Lyle, Lye, Crocodile;” Aug. 24: “Super Mario Bros;” Aug. 31: “DC League of Super Pets.”

Federal Way Farmers Market: Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this summer at The Commons mall.
