Don’t miss the Federal Way Lions Club’s annual car show Aug. 17 at The Commons mall parking lot, right next to the Federal Way Farmers Market.

19th Annual Lions Club Car Show: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at 1928 S. Commons in Federal Way. Join the annual celebration of incredible vehicles (and their owners).Viewing the event is free and open to the general public. There will be a live DJ, raffle, and many award categories. Net proceeds from the show fund scholarships for high school seniors in the Federal Way Public Schools. The Lions Club has awarded over $140,000 thanks to sponsors and participants.

Summer Repair Cafe at the South King Tool Library: Bring small household items for repair such as lamps, vacuums, clothing and furniture between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 24. Items should be clean — empty vacuum cleaners, remove pet hair, etc. South King Tool Library is located at 1700 South 340th Street in Federal Way.

Run with the Cops 5K: On Saturday, August 24 grab your “partner in crime” and Run with the Cops starting at the Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St. Join local law enforcement officers for this family friendly annual 5K event supporting Special Olympics Washington athletes. This event is put on by the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Washington.

Back to School Free Haircuts: The second annual free haircuts event is back this year with a goal of offering 500 free haircuts. Head to Town Square Park on Tuesday, Aug. 27, to get your student a fresh cut for free.

Federal Public Schools Board meeting: Catch up with your FWPS Board at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 via Zoom or at the Federal Way Public Schools ESC located at 33330 8th Avenue South in Federal Way.

FW City Council meeting: 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in the council chambers (upstairs and to the left) at City Hall (33325 8th Ave. S.).

Hot off the presses – evening edition: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation, coffee, beer, wine and appetizers. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Poverty Bay Café is located at 1108 S. 322nd Place in Federal Way, north of Celebration Park.

Community Litter Pick Up: Join the Stand Up Federal Way community group to help clean up trash near the Hylebos wetland. Meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 14. Park at 35400 1st Avenue S.

Shredding, Appliance and Tire Recycling: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at the South King Tool Library located at 1700 South 340th Street. More details available online.

Senior Commission Connection: Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet your Senior Commission members and enjoy a light lunch. This event is free and takes place at the Federal Way Community Center (Community Room A) at 876 S. 333rd Street.

Line dance for the soul w/ Royal Woman: From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. September 21, head to the Trap Lab for a night of footwork and fun to learn a variety of steps and styles you can show off at your next gathering. Sips and snacks will be available. Learn more at the Trap Lab’s website.

Masters of Hawaiian Music: At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, featuring George Kahumoku Jr., Led Kaapana and Jeff Peterson. The PAEC is located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. in Federal Way.
