The Arts Alive Juried Art Exhibition is a program designed to give regional artists as opportunity to display their works in a public setting. Artists working with a wide range of media are encouraged to participate. The exhibition is juried by a panel of artists.

Entries for the show will be accepted at City Hall, 33325 8th Ave. S, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23. On Sept. 24, the juried exhibition in City Hall will open for public viewing. The Arts Harvest Reception will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 in City Hall; the Juror’s Choice and Commission’s Choice awards will be presented at this time.

The Juror’s Choice winner will receive a $200 cash award and a one person exhibition at City Hall in January. The Commission’s Choice winner will receive $150 cash award and the People’s Choice winner will receive a $100 cash prize.

‘Contact’ premiere

Centerstage’s first production of the season is coming up: “Contact” will begin on Sept. 25. “Contact,” based on the best selling novel by Carl Sagan, which was also made into a movie, is the story of a young woman who goes on an out of this world journey. The score for the production was composed by Peter Sipos and lyrics were done by Amy Engelhardt. Adapted by Centerstage Artistic Director Alan Bryce.

FW Symphony season opener

The 2009-2010 season is getting ready to kick off for the Federal Way Symphony with a Oct. 4 concert “Sweet and Savory Strings.” The event begins at 2 p.m. The concert features Justine Lamb-Budge, a 17-year-old violinist. Lamb-Budge has studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with renowned violinists Ida Kavafian and Joseph Silverstein. Lamb-Budge has won several competitions and performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Ocean City Pops, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, and the Independence Sinfonia. She’s also performed in many significant venues including the Ethical Society of Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr College, the Academy of Music, Verizon and Perelman Halls at the Kimmel Center, Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, and Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. She also performed as a soloist at the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan, P.R., with the Festival of Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Americas (FOSJA) under the direction of Luis Biava.
