The Federal Way Symphony has proven to be on the right track with their passion and commitment to educate our youth by exposing them to different genres of music and a variety of instruments.

The Symphony proudly presents a new and wonderful performance of “Let Your Music Shine” with award-winning composers, performers, and music educators Lisa Grace Allison and Linda Sebenius. Their mission is to capture the unlimited potential of every child through music.

The show takes place at 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. April 14 at St. Luke’s Church, 515 S. 312th St., Federal Way. The 30-45 minute “Sailing the Musical Seas with the Federal Way Symphony” is designed for ages pre-K through 8, and is carefully crafted to be both educational and entertaining.

Lisa and Linda have performed their original shows for more than 300 sold-out audiences, and thousands of happy families. Filled with classic miniatures and engaging originals, they will win children’s hearts with their playful and nurturing style.

Their shows not only have music, but costumes and props that will have both parents and kids interacting with songs that are catchy and fun.

In addition, this treat for the young audience will include three students from Thomas Jefferson High School who will be performing with the “Let Your Music Shine” duo. Symphony Director Mary Gates says that T.J. band director Mike Lewis has been a huge asset in securing a bassoonist, a clarinet and flute player who will be featured in the performance.

Lewis believes that it is a great opportunity for his students to perform for a different audience than their peers, and it is also good for tots to see young musicians who are so accomplished. From Mary Gates’ perspective, she thinks it is a wonderful chance to feature talent from our local high schools because everyone then can appreciate the excellent training that schools are providing in all subject areas including vocal and instrumental music.

Music is fun and a great part of our lives. “Sailing the Musical Seas with the Federal Way Symphony” is a creative way to relate to the young audience that is not only educational and entertaining, but provides a happy environment where kids can jump, clap and swing in a live musical program.
