Federal Way residents Ken Morris and Paul Thomas Evers recently created their second coloring book, “Paul and Friends: Again,” to help raise money for Alzheimer’s research.

The book, set to be released Aug. 18, will help benefit the University of South Florida’s Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute. That organization is aimed at helping “heal the mind, body and soul of those affected by Alzheimer’s.”

“I believe in bringing people together through the arts. What you do isn’t as important as why you do it,” said Morris, the editor and producer of the book.

Evers, who is the artist and illustrator for the book, has been personally affected by Alzheimer’s. Evers and his family cared for his ailing grandmother during her battle with the disease, until she passed away last year.

“My grandmother has always been my inspiration to be an artist. She used to always tell me, ‘You’re the best one.’ We’re donating the earnings from Volume 2 so that everyone’s grandma can say that to them,” Evers said.

The dynamic duo are roommates here in Federal Way. They plan to sell their book at local farmers markets, events, fairs and the like. The book will also be available for purchase directly from Amazon.com.

Outside of the Paul and Friends books, Evers and Morris have also created an award-winning film named “Obselidia.” They have written a half-dozen scripts, and have shot several short films. They plan on releasing future volumes of the Paul and Friends coloring books, and plan to donate the proceeds to other charities.
