Fashion, faith and food were on the agenda at the Cherish breakfast held May 9.
The annual event has been going on for 25 years and was packed — 150 tables filled with 1,200 women.
This year, Christian Faith Center, which runs the event, added extra seating. In addition to the Friday night dessert and the Saturday morning brunch, there was also a Saturday afternoon brunch, which brought in about 900 women.
Each table is decorated by the hostess, a woman of the church, with her own china and whatever else she feels like putting on the table.
The tables were varied from classic to crazy, filled to the brim with bright colors.
“I love it!” organizer Terry Schurman said. “It’s so fantastic.”
The main event was the comedy sketch and fashion show, which were weaved into each other.
The skit was a take-off on the “Amazing Race” television show. Quick catwalk trips were held while contestants raced from one location to another based on clues such as “Where the seas were parted and the 10 do’s and don’ts were started.” It wasn’t the Holy Land; it was Moses Lake.
There were several fashion shows mixed into the morning, which fashion organizer Jill Cooper said took several weeks to organize as well as get everyone fitted and accessorized.
The clothes, which are borrowed from K and G, Group USA and Macy’s, all will be returned after the Mill Creek Cherish event.
“They are all really nice to work with,” Cooper said of the companies that donated clothing. “They come to the event.”
The models rehearse for about six weeks.
However, the actors in the “Amazing Race” skit had rehearsals for about two months, three to four hours each week.
The teams, a Jewish couple from the Bronx, a team of cheerleading best friends and a brother-sister superhero duo, finished their race with a tie-breaking obstacle course, which ended with a slow-motion photo finish set to “Chariots of Fire” music. The photo finish resulted in a win by fake purple acrylic nail…and the winners were the Jewish couple.
