The 24th annual City of Destiny Awards will recognize top local volunteers at 7 p.m. May 11 at Stadium High School in Tacoma. Among award recipients is Bikes for Kids, which is being honored in the neighborhood group/community partnership category. The Bikes for Kids program at Marine View Presbyterian Church fixes and donates about 300 bicycles a year to Federal Way children. Bikes for Kids is headed by Bill Peterson and Don Cowan, who got involved nine years ago after fellow Marine View church member Betty Long sought people to continue her father’s program.
