From staff reports:
The City of Federal Way is hosting a free “Backyard Chickens” workshop on from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at City Hall.
The workshop is the first in the city’s planned series of “Green Living Workshops.” These workshops will run the second Wednesday of every month this year (except August and December), and are aimed at a wide range of “green” topics, such as food canning and preservation, to organic gardening, to energy saving techniques that can be utilized with new technologies.
For the Backyard Chickens workshop, experts from Seattle Tilth will share their knowledge on how to raise healthy hens in urban/suburban backyards. The city recently updated their code on this issue, and the experts from Tilth will also speak to residents on how to make sure they’re in compliance with that code, and how to stay in compliance with any other urban livestock, such as rabbits or goats.
To RSVP for this first workshop, call (253) 835-2700 or visit www.cityoffederalway.com/greenliving.
