Federal Way Symphony will open its 33rd season with “Back to the Classics,” featuring Steinway artist Mark Salman.
The concert begins at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at St. Luke’s Church, 515 S. 312th St., Federal Way. The concert includes the entire professional symphony performing favorites such as Mozart’s Symphony in G minor, Schubert’s Overture in the Italian Style, and Mark Salman performing Beethoven’s third piano concerto.
Tickets are $28 for seniors, $32 for adults, $15 for students 18 and over. Youth under age 18 are admitted free. Seattle-based Steinway artist Mark Salman has performed in Europe, Asia, Canada and throughout the U.S., including Carnegie and Alice Tully Hall in New York, in performances described as “powerful,” “astonishing, exacting, evocative,” “wildly imaginative” and “touchingly lyrical.”
Salman is a co-founder of the Delmarva Piano Festival in Rehoboth Beach, Del., which recently completed its 17th season. Recent performances include his debut at the Newport Music Festival in Newport, R.I.; an eight-recital series devoted to the works of Franz Liszt in Seattle; three recitals featuring Schubert’s final three sonatas; a complete cycle of Beethoven’s five piano concertos and Choral Fantasy with Orchestra Seattle; a recital series celebrating Chopin’s 200th birthday; a five-recital series commemorating Liszt’s 200th birthday; and numerous concerto appearances throughout the Northwest.
Salman has performed the complete cycle of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas on both coasts and in 16 KING-FM broadcasts.
Under the music direction of Maestro A. Brian Davenport, Federal Way Symphony has enriched the community through professional symphonic music performances and education programs for 33 years.
