What was ‘Mr. Artist’ smoking?
I was astounded by the cartoon in the Feb. 4 issue of The Mirror.
I was not able to decipher the name of the artist so I will just address him as “Mr. Artist.”
Mr. Artist, what are you smoking? You say that right-wing talk radio is alive and well and promises long-term job security. You seem to imply that this is wrong and that talk radio should somehow be curtailed.
Mr. Artist, what kind of a world are you living in? Do you not know that all the major newspapers are liberal? We have a liberal president. Both houses of Congress are run by liberals. Our schools are run by liberals. The entertainment industry is liberal. Most of television is liberal. The only outlet for conservative thought in this country is talk radio. Do you want to shut that down, too, Mr. Artist?
Leo J. Thoennes, Federal Way
Cartoonist and the Nazis
Just thought I would let you know how extremely disappointed I was when I looked in the Federal Way Mirror today.
I did not like what I saw. It reminded me of the Nazi drawings of the Jews in the 1930s. Do you have a former Nazi drawing your cartoons? If you do not know what I am talking about, it is on page 6 of the Feb. 4 issue depicting right-wing talk radio as slobbering, irate, eye-popping Nobamas. This is typical of liberals who do not like to afford anyone who doesn’t parrot their own views the benefit of free speech. While there may be some talk radio people who get out of control, I can say the same about the left wingers…Ken Schram comes to mind. He has been in your paper a few times spewing his opinions. That is his First Amendment right, but I have never seen anyone draw a derogatory cartoon about the left in your paper. Is this the type of message you want to send to your readers? Offending readers who have a different viewpoint is OK? Let’s just demonize them and make fun of them. That is what the Nazis did to the Jews.
Since we do not subscribe to this but it keeps ending up in our driveway anyway, I plan on saving all of them and when I have a sufficient amount, I will bring them back to you. I also plan on letting the advertisers know that I will not patronize their businesses since they must support this type of bashing.
