Washington needs some Wisconsin love | Letters

The voters of Wisconsin are not stupid. They saw that their state was going the way of Greece. They saw that in Greece, some public sector workers are retiring at age 50 with full pay and benefits for the rest of their lives.

In the Federal Way Mirror on June 22, I saw the column by Bob Roegner. It was written under the headline “Wisconsin could happen in WA.”

A more appropriate headline might have been “Wisconsin should happen in WA, otherwise Greece could happen in WA.”

It seems that Roegner’s main concern was the recent recall election of Republican Gov. Scott Walker. He said Walker was employing a power grab by attacking public sector unions.

I think Roegner misses the point entirely. The voters of Wisconsin are not stupid. They saw that their state was going the way of Greece. They saw that in Greece, some public sector workers are retiring at age 50 with full pay and benefits for the rest of their lives.

The voters of Wisconsin did not want to go down this path.

The voters of Wisconsin elected Scott Walker as their governor because he told them how he would correct the problem.

After he was elected, he actually did what he had promised. There were those who did not like it, so they put together a recall effort. The voters of Wisconsin elected Scott Walker a second time.

Mr. Roegner, the voters of Wisconsin are not stupid. Yes, Wisconsin should happen in WA.
