I would like to reference the comments that were shown in The Mirror on June 29 from Paul Levy. He made the comment that he found the ROTC ceremony at a previous meeting of the Federal Way School Board to be disturbing.

Apparently, he had his head so far in the sand that he did not know that those young people are the positive future of our community and nation. My son is a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and is flying a $200 million aircraft. What are you responsible for, Mr. Levy?

My son graduated with a four-year degree. A significant part of his focus and maturity was being a member of Central Washington University’s Air Force ROTC. He then went onto Air Force pilot training. I have gotten to know many former ROTC cadets, and each and every one of them is of the highest level of integrity and character, apparently something that Mr. Levy knows little about.

The next time that Mr. Levy flies on a commercial airplane, he should know that many pilots are former military pilots. Mr. Levy questions a future for these young ROTC personnel who were at that board meeting by saying that he questions if a career in the military, or specifically in the USAF, is a career at all.

I am a USAF and Vietnam veteran, and am proud of it. Mr. Levy’s remarks are without equal and are certainly demonstrative of who Paul Levy really is. He should be ashamed of his comments.

Let me just add this. As of June 30, the USAF has sent eight C-130 cargo aircraft modified with bladders to try and curtail the fire, which is spreading through out the Colorado Springs area. I am sure that the families that are being affected by the fire have a different opinion and admiration of these USAF crews. These crews are professional and committed to doing what their country has asked of them. These missions of support have risks and dangers.

So Mr. Levy, if you want to retract your opinion, I believe that the time is now to do so. “Keep ‘em flying” and aim high.
