Unlike police chief, I got a citation | Federal Way letters, April 1

I read your article about the Federal Way police chief’s fender-bender.

I also had a similar accident. I was stopped at the light at 312th Street and 1st Avenue S. It was a cold day, so I was wearing boots. My foot slipped off the brake onto the gas pedal. My car lurched forward and hit the bumper of the car in front of me.

The driver was the wife of a Federal Way police officer, so she felt it necessary to call the police, even though it was very minor. No one was injured. Unlike the police chief, I was issued a citation. I was not on a cell phone or distracted by reading headlines on a “BlackBerry.”

Funny, if I had known all I had to do was have the city manager give me a verbal reprimand, I would have called him. I would have been very happy to make “a public apology for the mistake.” Isn’t it time that public officials take responsibility and are treated equally to the general population?
