Twin Lakes: Protect an asset | Federal Way letters

Is the proposed $25/month addition to Twin Lakes homeowners dues a subsidy to the country club? It can justifiably be argued that it is.

Is the portion of my taxes that goes to support Mount Rainier National Park a subsidy? It certainly is.

I will never again summit Mt. Rainier or backpack the Wonderland Trail, and I only occasionally make use of its amenities. Yet Mt. Rainier is an asset that enhances the value of the entire region, an asset that we all should be happy to protect with our tax dollars.

Now we, as Twin Lakes homeowners, have been given the opportunity to protect a valuable asset within our own community, an asset that has been enhanced by opening country club facilities to non-members.

I will never play a round of golf. Tennis and swimming are no longer viable for me. But the presence of the country club and its contribution to the value of my home and every home in Twin Lakes is, in my view, as asset well worth the $25/month “subsidy.”

Please join me in voting to protect this asset.
