The Twin Lakes Homeowners Association has announced another vote on the amenities program for Feb. 6. It’s interesting to note that various homeowners from Marine Hills, North Shire and West Campus have remarked, based on their experience, what a remarkable deal the amenities program is for the Twin Lakes homeowners. They cannot understand why anybody would be against the program.
Anybody who reads a newspaper or watches TV understands there is a real problem with crime in Washington state and Federal Way. Raising the level of civic responsibility can come from the actions of a single person, but it normally comes from a cohesive action from a larger group or a complete community to be effective. Twin Lakes now has the opportunity to form that group and set an example for other areas and to raise the image of Twin Lakes as the place to live in Federal Way. Twin Lakes can become a force in Federal Way.
The youth programs at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club are well defined and very successful. The Decatur golf team uses Twin Lakes as a home course. This makes them the envy of most other golf teams and adds to the good image of Twin Lakes. The swim team is one of the most successful swim teams in King County. It competes with other swim clubs from all over South King County. This is another image builder. The junior golf program contains up to 150 junior participants in the summer program. This program has also produced some college scholarships and teaches the value of truth and competition. All of these program provide a positive example for our youth.
There is no reason Twin Lakes has to be just a golf club. Many retirement areas have shown numerous activities that could be developed. If we get together and make suggestions, almost anything is possible that is legal. Groups forming with a common interest have to have a common meeting area. That could be Twin Lakes.
Let’s not go down the same path that North Shore took. They have spent three years and $300,000 and still have not solved their problem.
Finally, Federal Way does not need another business to fail or leave the area. Twin Lakes provides 55 jobs and contributes $3 million to the economy. This makes Twin Lakes a major small business. It would be missed. It’s important: Vote yes to save and build our community.
