Three cheers to Lake Grove Elementary | Federal Way letters

On Jan. 27, I was invited to attend an assembly at Lake Grove Elementary School. The focus of the gathering was the civil rights movement and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Most of the program was presented by the students. It was apparent that they were well aware of the history and the impact of the movement.

I was also impressed by the teaching staff’s dedication to building community awareness and good citizenship. There is an ongoing program for encouraging and rewarding students for actions that are helpful and thoughtful of others, both in the school and the community at large. Individually, these community contributors are recognized and awarded a certificate for each action.

During the assembly, the audience of small bodies from kindergarten to fifth grade, with self-controlled “wiggliness,” was attentive, courteous and appreciative — demonstrating good citizenship.

Three cheers for the Lake Grove Elementary School community!
