I came across this article (“Federal Way schools tackle cultural divide,” October 2008) and I wanted to put in my feedback. I was a Federal Way High School student, class of 2004, and experienced these problems and even tried to bring it to attention to the staff, but I was ignored. Ultimately, it affected my attendance and grades in school.

I don’t want to go into all the detail, but it all started when there was a problem between a group of Caucasian females and a group of Asian females, and even though I was not part of these groups just because I was Asian, I became associated with them and was harassed by these Caucasian girls.

I wrote a letter to the principal because I was told that was the way I had to go if I wanted to change my classes. However, I never got a response nor did my classes change.

This experience affected me in a hard way, and even in a writing class I took in college, I wrote about this experience. I am just glad that it finally became known that there is a problem that needs to be faced, and I hope that there will be a resolution so other students and teenagers do not have to go through these hardships.
