Dear Federal Way Public Schools community,

Because of your support for education, Federal Way Public Schools’ 2010 replacement technology levy passed by 619 votes. King County Elections certified the results on Feb. 24.

We would like to thank the community for continuing to support our local schools. This levy will replace the 2005 technology levy, which expires this year. The district will spend levy dollars to sustain existing technology equipment and programs, continue upgrading aging computers, train staff for success with emerging technologies, initiate pilot programs that use emerging technologies, and improve the connection and data transmission feeds within the school buildings.

Our students’ world will continue to change rapidly. With a strong foundation in today’s technology, they will be better prepared to learn and adapt to the innovations the future holds in store for them. The technology levy will ensure that Federal Way students have a level playing field when competing with students around the state, across the nation and in our global community.

This replacement levy continues local support for technology through the year 2016. It was structured to keep taxpayers’ contributions to schools level through the next six years.

We would also like to thank the hundreds of volunteers who dedicated their time and resources to promote supporting our students through the technology levy. The Students for Federal Way Schools and Citizens for Federal Way Schools groups, in particular, were extremely valuable resources for the campaign.

With this kind of community support, it is easy to see why Federal Way Public Schools are recognized as a leader in public education. We continue to raise expectations for all students and staff, and exceed them — improving academic outcomes and strengthening our teaching workforce. We do this together. As a community, we continue our relentless pursuit of an outstanding education for all students.
