I was saddened by what I read on Aug. 3 in the police blotter that a dog was left behind by the owner who left town.
The dog was left to roam around the streets on his own and then was hit by a car. The injured dog still went back to his home, waiting for his owner’s return. His wound became infected and he was rescued by the Humane Society, but it was too late — he had to be put down.
Why decent people would abandon their dog like this is beyond me. Dogs are loyal animals regardless of how badly they are treated. They will always stay with you. They can’t speak. It is the owner’s responsibility to take good care of them. Now this dog has “crossed the rainbow bridge” and entered a better place. One day when our time on Earth is up, we will meet our beloved animal again. I pray the former owner of this dog will ask it for its forgiveness. We are fortunate to have a Humane Society that can take care of sad situations like this.
