Rumor has it that certain members of the city council are trying to manipulate the upcoming Federal Way mayor’s election to favor their personal political agenda. These rumors include plans of scheduling the mayor’s election during the next legislative session and/or setting the mayor’s salary at $30,000, all in efforts to reduce the number of qualified potential candidates.

I sincerely, and perhaps naively, hope that these rumors are not true. If the city council cares at all about the future of Federal Way, they will acknowledge that they are too close to this issue to make unbiased decisions and will appoint a committee of citizens and community leaders to decide all pertinent issues surrounding the new mayor position.
