(RE: “Let’s discuss the value of photocops,” letters, March 10):
Crybabies, you break the law, you pay the price. It really doesn’t matter if a police officer or a camera caught you for speeding or running a red light — you broke the law. You pay the fine, the same fine as if you were cited by a police officer.
There has been so much said about these photocops, I do believe they are real lifesavers. Before the cameras were installed, I could sit on the corner of 320th Street and Pacific Highway, and after the light changed and I had the green, many times I would have to wait for several — i.e., four or five — cars to finish making a left-hand turn.
What politicians are all of you talking about when you say, “it’s for safety?” Yeah, the city or municipalities are putting the money into the municipalities’ coffers. It sounds like, by some of your comments, that someone is going to get rich. It may just help the budget a little or maybe even buy a few more cameras. They should be put on every corner and if you break the law, whether a police officer catches you or the camera catches you, you will pay the fine. It could be money or it could be community service. I just hope the city got its money’s worth.
I’m not a perfect driver. I do speed. I don’t think I’ve run red lights, they may have turned red before I got through the intersection, but not before I entered the intersection. I’ve made “California stops,” not anymore, especially where the cameras are.
If nothing else, it brought to all of your attention that the cameras work and they are out there. Now you go out and have a good day.
