For those who missed the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus missed a real treat. With a wonderful program of varied musicians and singers, we were treated to what will be a long-remembered display of musicianship. From a beautiful harp concerto to viewing pictures of the Grand Canyon and Yosemite as the musical pieces were being played, gave one a sense of actually being there. As “Tears in Heaven” was sung by a woman chorus member, it brought tears to my eyes. Such a highlight to see some of our Todd Beamer musicians perform with the band. The displays of patriotism throughout the concert were heart-tugging and a spokesman reminded us that we need to concentrate on the things that unite, not divide us.
As a skeptic to the the original Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, I felt the costs were prohibitive and questioned the sanity of our city leaders. After attending some performances at the center and hearing the praises of the military band leaders for the facility, I’m convinced we have a “diamond in the rough.”
My only complaint now is the almost prohibitive cost of attendance for events. To include a family of four to an event destroys the purpose of the experience as the Army Field Band’s free concert showed with its packed house. Let’s make prices reasonable so we can pack the place as we did for the military band!
