In response to FWHS graduate Paige Edmiston’s essay, “Reinventing the Patriot” and to the certain individual who deemed FWHS unworthy of the levy that would rebuild our school because we, as students, will never amount to anything.

You told the taxpayers

We were not worth their dollars

You told them that

Because of our school’s history

We would not amount to anything

You told them all this

Without realizing

By denying our chance at a better building

You are denying our chance

At success

You are taking away our futures

Because we are not enabled to be successful

When we sit in frigid classrooms

With drip drip drips coming

From the endless leaks

And floods running rivers through our hallways

We are told we are

Forgotten

Unwanted

Undeserving

And ignored

What child is inspired

To learn in these predicaments

Who looks forward to facing a

Daily

Reminder of our insignificance

When really all we need

Is a push toward greatness

Someone to tell us

We are worthy of

An education

A right to learn

In a healthy,

Clean, and

Safe environment

You do not understand

The weight of your shame

And you should revel in the power

That came from

These “undeserving” students

Who rallied together

Who gave a voice

One to be reckoned with

We said

We will not be broken

We will not be tossed aside

Because we are

Worth

So much more than your harmful labels and

Inconsiderate judgments

We

Who are considered lazy

And undetermined

Came together

United for a cause

To gain the right to our

Education

Despite your flaws
