Not Hell’s Angels, but Republican Angels | Federal Way letters

Not to be confused with L.A. Angels, or Hell’s Angels, or Tinkerbell…these angels are probably a diverse bunch. Some anglo angels, some African American angels, some Latino angeles, and even Arab angels (do Muslims believe in angels?)…

I’m not convinced that Muslims, Hindus or Buddhists are on the “side” of the angels, but I assume so since columnist Walter Backstrom is pushing for diversity (“The new Republican Party,” July 25). Lord/Buddha/Allah/Shiva/Vishnu knows what Walter’s all about though, and that’s gettin’ this party started! It’s gonna be like Manifest Destiny(‘s child) Palooza. I can see it now: Glenn Beck dancing the samba with a patchouli flavored Unitarian… Walter, Casey Treat and Tim Eyman doing an end zone celebration (very P.C., of course) once the “wrong” people have been vanquished.

“Winning” is easier when the angels are on your side — they tell you what to think, they are always forgiven (within the party), and like other figments of our imagination (or lack thereof), they are perfect.

Not to be a party pooper, but the parties aren’t the answer, and neither are the angels. Walter, you and I are. Stop the branding, the sneetches with stars conundrum that has us all calling each other lesser beings for our party affiliations. You being Christian, or someone else being agnostic has zip to do with the issues at hand. Corruption at the highest levels — banks, financiers, corporate board rooms, dealmakers, Third World covert operations, etc. — rob the people of simple life. We’ve been sold a bag of goods, and there’s a lot of rotten fruit in there, and what isn’t rotten is close to it.

Being “right” is applying the golden rule, to people and environment. Anything else is human folly, and just start researching that for a bit, and that pile will overwhelm you. You’re always on the wrong side when you start from thinking you are any different from the next person. The people need their own party, not these Wizards of Oz behind the curtain, hoping we’ll follow their path. If wanton capitalism isn’t the antithesis of the golden rule, then I guess I’m missing something. Humans are banging their heads against the proverbial wall. It’s starting to hurt, but it’ll take a little longer for us to feel enough pain to see that we need to clean house. The people own this country, but you’d never know it. They keep letting liars keep them in their place, even when one person’s net worth could feed countries. Just read the Constitution, and remember, we are the commonwealth. Party on Garth!
