So I pick up The Mirror today (June 11) and I see the principal of Nautilus Elementary School having ice cream and chocolate sauce poured over her head. It seems she told her students that they could do this if they read some books.
She said that she would do anything to get them to read. Really “anything?” Would you go so far as impose discipline and require them to read these books? I doubt if she would go that far.
These stunts, although well intentioned, make a circus out of school. Beyond that they make a clown out of an authority figure — the principal — and by extension, all principals.
What in the world is going on here? Can you imagine a Superior Court judge allowing felons to turn him into a hot fudge sundae and claiming that he would do anything to curtail crime?
What is incredible is that these smart students would even participate in this stunt.
This is unbelievable. But this deserves to be on the front page of the paper. This is news! This is news about our education system and its decline.
