Leadership and elected mayors | Federal Way letters

The Proposition 1 election is over. There is going to be an elected mayor, elected for the first time since incorporation by the citizens of Federal Way.

Rather than work toward finding and electing a strong individual to the position of mayor, we have individuals and groups who are dedicated to telling the people they should elect someone who will work toward negating their votes. There are at least two candidates running who have stridently opposed an elected mayor, insisting it would ruin Federal Way.

Furthermore, there have been those who act like ambition by a politician is a bad thing, but forget the ambition of those they support. All politicians are ambitious. If politicians weren’t ambitious, we wouldn’t elect them because they wouldn’t be someone who shows any forward thinking. Forward thinking, not stagnant posturing, is what the City of Federal Way needs in its leadership positions.

I’ve known city council member Jim Ferrell for a long time and know him to be honest and forward thinking, and that he will “serve” the citizens with the greatest integrity and an eye toward seeing the City of Federal Way move forward. If Jim Ferrell is guilty of anything, it’s standing up to the powers that be, giving power back to the people, and wanting to move our city forward.

Jim Ferrell is the kind of leader we the people of Federal Way are long overdue for.

He certainly has my vote.
