The letter by Paul R. Stone (“Washington state’s current fiscal disaster,” July 7) should be required reading for all voters in the state of Washington. In simple words, Stone did an excellent job of describing the financial crisis facing our state and he told us how to correct the problem…at the ballot box.
I have written many letters to U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray. I have written to Rep. Adam Smith. I seldom get a reply and if I do, it usually is a stupid form letter that does not even touch on the subject of my letter.
Politicians say they listen to the people. I don’t think so. They pay attention only to what happens at the ballot box. For that reason, we should pay attention to what these politicians do and to remember this when we get to voting.
For instance, beginning next year we will see the biggest tax increase in the history of our country. Remember who voted for these tax increases. Cantwell, Murray and Smith voted for all of them.
Read the letter by Stone again and remember that we should not kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
