Concerned about opinion piece
I am very concerned with the Federal Way Mirror publishing an editorial by Martin Moore. Mr. Moore is identified as a former member of the Federal Way City Council.
Mr. Moore is also a candidate for the office of city council position 2. He has registered with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) and even has signs around town. He calls out Councilmember Paul McDaniel in his article by name and the other councilmembers who supported the resolution.
This is clearly a campaign related article as he is running against Councilmember McDaniel.
It is by understanding with working with the Federal Way Mirror over the years that if one candidate gets to have an article published so than do the other people running for the office. And I would include myself in that also as I was one of four councilmembers who voted for the resolution.
I do expect that we will be offered the ability to publish an editorial as did Mr. Moore. And that you the editor of this newspaper will identify the fact that Mr. Moore is running for office by making a correction in the next edition of the newspaper.
That is the only right way to correct this issue.

Editor’s note: Any councilmembers running for election who would like to submit a guest column related to the topic that Moore wrote about in the April 18 edition of the Federal Way Mirror (the city council’s vote on the youth psychiatric treatment center) can send it to andy.hobbs@soundpublishing.com. Limit is 575 words and deadline is 5 p.m. April 30 for publication in the May 2 edition.
