There is a mistake in the sand sculpting story on page 1 of the July 24 issue. The story stated that a $23,000 grant was from “city tourism enhancement.” That $23,000 came from the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC).
LTAC’s broad mission is to improve city revenue from tourism. The Tourism Enhancement Grant Program (TEG) is administered by an LTAC subcommittee. TEG has very narrow guidelines. Annual funding has ranged from $30,000 to $50,000 for the two grant periods per year program. The grant applications are reviewed by a five-member committee and recommendations are forwarded on to LTAC, the city’s FEDRAC committee and the full council.
This year, the sand sculpting group received $23,000 from LTAC and submitted a grant appliation to TEG for an additional $23,000. TEG did not approve the grant request for the additional monies.
